The Kindle2 introduces by amazon is an “e-book” reader, with free wireless access for browsing and purchasing from a library of 90,000 digitized books (over 230,000 books today), plus dozens of magazines and daily newspapers, hundreds of blogs and more.

The Kindle2, unlike other e-readers, had a store full of current content at reasonable prices. Every major publishing house was on-board, with hardcover top-sellers in Kindle editions and most of the backcatalog for even less — as significant for the book world as Apple’s iTunes Store debut was for the music business.

Kindle2 is not cannibalizing paper book sales, however; CEO says that Kindle owners are buying about the same number of physical books as before while also buying Kindle books at a rate of 1.6 to 1.7 times their paper purchases. (more…)

The paperless paperbook stores up to 160 electronic books all in the size of an ordinary paperback, but at less than 1/2″ thick.

Each page is displayed on a patented screen which uses E-Ink® technology. This replicates the contrast of black ink on light grey paper giving it a high contrast making it similar to reading a page of an actual book.
